This week, The Associated Press announced that Carol Burnett is the latest recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. That means stop what you’re doing and set your DVR right NOW to record the ceremony, which will air on October 30th on PBS. It’s sure to be a hilarious night.
Carol Burnett is one of the main reasons (along with Gilda Radner and Lucille Ball) I wanted to be an actress. The fact that she created, starred, wrote and produced her own show appealed to my bossy side, even as a kid. She’s the 5th woman to win this prestigious award, joining Whoopi Goldberg, Lily Tomlin, Tina Fey and Ellen DeGeneres. It’s about time. Congratulations Carol!
The Classic “Went With The Wind” Sketch
The cast of “The Carol Burnett Show” always seemed to have the best time. It was exactly the kind of job I hoped to have some day, especially if I could be in charge like her. Here’s one of my favorite sketches they ever did, not just because it’s absolutely brilliant, but because it makes my husband cry with laughter every time he watches it. Sure, this one showcases Tim Conway, but also features Carol (and the others) with her highly underrated skill as the straight man… well sort of. Nobody in the cast can keep their shit together. Love it. Love Carol.
