If you’re looking for something to do in the summer of 2013, you might consider heading to Maximum Fun’s MaxFunCon West, from May 31st to June 2nd. A festival organized by Jesse Thorn, head of podcasting empire Maximum Fun, the festival is a mashup between a classic summer camp, full of arts and crafts, and a more post-modern experience filled with comedy shows and classes.
Thorn is close to the vest about the comedians and entertainers that will fill out the schedule for MaxFunCon 2013, but the pedigree is high: previous MaxFunCons have included guests like Marc Maron, Dick Cavett, Pixar’s Lee Unkrich, John Hodgman and Michael Ian Black.
Maximum Fun has a history of not announcing their MaxFunCon schedule until after tickets are sold out—so don’t wait for that kind of announcement. If you love alt-comedy and artisanal community events you’ll definitely want to look into MaxFunCon early on. Consider this your warning to “camp out so you’re first in line” without having to actually be that guy.
