There has never been a better time to be a female comedian than right now. Which means, there has never been a better time to be an audience member, because the ladies are brining it!
If you live in the Chicago area, you’re in luck. The 2nd Annual Chicago Women’s Funny Festival starts tomorrow at stage 773. Featuring over 400 performers, it’s a chance to see the funniest up and coming (and established) women in the Chicago comedy scene, as well as from around the country. From improv to story telling, solo shows, musical acts, stand up and other, they have all the funny covered.
There are so many amazing acts it’s hard for me to tell you which ones to go to. Some personal favorites of mine are Candy Lawrence (stand up), “Edna James Presents: Hello There Friend” (solo sketch featuring Kelly Bolton), “I’m Different, Not Dumb” (solo show featuring the hilarious Ali Clayton), Kelsie Huff (stand up), Moffitt & Okrant (storytelling), “Off Off Broadzways” (musical sketch) and “Sirens (Chicago’s longest running all-female improv ensemble). With such stellar talent, you really can’t go wrong no matter which show you see.
Of course also check out some of SO’s favorits such as Drunk Monkeys (Friday, June 7th at 11pm), The Pin-Up Party featuring She’s Crafty (Friday at midnight), and yours truly (Sunday at 7pm). (Sorry, I had to.)
See the full lineup and get your tickets ASAP at chicagowomensfunnyfestival.com.
