Cartier-Bresson, as these images are entirely staged—but in the sense that a photographic image completely nullifies what came before or after the instant it was made. As such, the scenes depicted in my images hang in a transitory space that’s neither here nor there: they show what happened before or after, but never what did. Aesthetically, my pictures are inspired by the Spielberg films, Close Encounters and E.T., that I obsessed over as a child.
