Melbourne, Australia based Laura McKellar is an artist primarily focused in illustration and design who exhibits her work worldwide. Her projects range from embroidery to hand thrown ceramic pieces, to collage, to making objects out of her illustrations. Her picture-based hand made zine’s are unbound and printed on a range of different paper, giving each its own individuality and texture, and are killer. When you come across an artist who works at such a high level in multiple mediums, and truly does have a uniqueness that can’t be defined, you know you’ve come across something great. When that said artist is also auctioning off her work for a cause far from us but close to her, you really take notice.
We tend to notice and think about what is happening stateside, naturally, and not much elsewhere. The Queensland floods that happened late December and early January have been horrific for the people in the state, with many lives lost and families separated, and relief effort still going underway for a problem that hasn’t gone away. Laura is doing her part to help. She’s auctioning some of her work to raise money for the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal. The auction ends January 24, so if you want to help and buy some great art at the same time, go to her website and get at it.
