Self-Reflection: Twenty Authors Draw Themselves

It’s easy to gain an idea of a writer’s personality through their writing in ways a jacket photo just can’t convey. But when an author draws a self-portrait it’s fascinating to see if they view themselves in the way we’ve come to understand their personality. It’s not surprising to see Kurt Vonnegut draw himself in a whimsical, post-modern way, cigarette dangling from his lips, but who would have thought that the hard-living Charles Bukowski would draw himself as a Ziggy-like squiggle? Or that Jack Kerouac draws himself as a character from Where the Red Fern Grows? The fine folks over at Flavorwire have compiled a fascinating collection of self-portraits from those authors and many more that’s well worth checking out.
