Conan” has the best stand up comedians in late night. The words, “Tonight (insert name) is making his/her late night television debut, please welcome…” are a comedians dream, and Conan O’Brien says those words (specifically “television debut”) more than any other late night host. I’ve been so lucky to be able to interview and develop relationships with many of the comedians I’ve interviewed or that have been a part of Serial Optimist. We’ve done hundreds of interviews over the past three years, and there’s a few characteristics that are found in almost every single comedian I’ve spoken with: They are truly, truly kind. They are insecure. They are so extremely hard working. They are sensitive. They are highly smart. They support one another. They like making people smile.

These are the comedians who get their name “inserted.” Whose dreams are coming true the very moment that those curtain opens. Of course not all comedians are like this, but the ones who have those characteristics are the ones dominating the comedy game.

Aparna Nancherla made her late night debut on “Conan” last night and was fantastic. She also has all of the characteristics and more that I mentioned above. It made me think of all the other comedians I’ve gotten giddy about that have been on “Conan” this year, and oh man, so many great options! Check out some of the best stand up on “Conan” this year.
